The Illusionist vs. The Prestige

Who is the winner? Well both of them have been out for quite a while, but I hadn’t seen them both until tonight. I’ve seen The Prestige a few times, but never The Illusionist. Even though they are both very good movies, it is clear to me which I favor the most: The Illusionist. They are both astonishing and insightful, but the cinematography, acting, writing, and underlying factors in The Illusionist completely blow The Prestige out of the water. Edward Norton is great in this film and so are his costars. In The Prestige, however, Christian Bale was amazing but Hugh Jackman was unpolished. Both stories implement mystery and small doses of suspense, but The Illusionist does so in a tightly schemed manner whereas The Prestige has many loose ends. I don’t really want to spoil the movies, so watch them like I did: slightly informed but not sure about what to expect. If you watch them with that mindset you won’t be disappointed.

I actually preferred The Prestige. The main thing I liked about the Prestige is that it explained how the magic tricks were done and that there was a bit of a supernatural or science/supernatural feel to it (don’t want to give anything away). The Illusionist was good, but I didn’t really like how it ended and the main trick in the movie didn’t make any sense since it wasn’t explained at all. Anyways, both were pretty good, but give me The Prestige. Cheers.

That is one of the things that made me enjoy The Illusionist more, the fact that the magic wasn’t explained. Not explaining the magic tricks in The Illusionist explained everything. The ENTIRE illusion. It’s really hard to explain it without giving it away! I believe that the messages in the movie were subliminally felt in my conscience. The movie wasn’t about magic tricks or science, it was about something much more important. It starts with L and ends with E, and that’s all I can say about that. Adios!
